Description
VRLA stands for valve regulated lead-acid and is the designation for Sealed Maintenance Free lead-acid batteries, also called recombinant batteries. VRLA batteries are commonly further classified as:
1. Absorbent glass mat battery
2. Gel batteries
VRLA batteries minimize the water loss. The gas generation is minimized and the gases recombine to form water and hence the water loss is reduced. The oxygen gas generated at the positive plate is transported to the negative plate and there is a recombination of oxygen and hydrogen to form water. The recombination process is accomplished by using an immobilized electrolyte which facilitates the transport of oxygen and thus these batteries operate on the Oxygen Recombination principle.
1. VRLA AGM BATTERY TECHNOLOGY:
Based on recombinant electrolyte technology where water loss is minimized through low hydrogen over potential alloy and starved electrolyte design which facilitates the oxygen cycle for regeneration of water. Electrolyte is held in the 100 Glass Micro Fiber separators and within the plate pores.
2. VRLA GEL BATTERY TECHNOLOGY:
Based on recombinant electrolyte technology where water loss is minimized through low hydrogen over potential alloy and starved electrolyte design, facilitating oxygen cycle for regeneration of water. Electrolyte is held in a matrix of Silica and within the plate pores.
Most of the Low cost commercial VRLA Products use inferior alloys, very low resilience separator material, products with high internal resistance, with low shelf and service life, designs are not application specific & outdated manufacturing techniques.
With years of Continuous improvement, backed up with In-house R&D facilities, Southern Batteries produces a PREMIUM RANGE OF VRLA BATTERIES branded as Hi-Power. This technology is developed at par with U.S, Europe and Japanese Benchmarks and cost effective Chinese manufacturing techniques

Hi-Power Premium Range VRLA batteries manufactured in The Company, has a unique feature of Excellent Deep Discharge Recovery & Quick Recharge Characteristics.
Hi-Power Premium Range of VRLA Batteries adopts balanced positive to negative active material ratio for UPS applications. Premature capacity loss is avoided through special alloy, paste additive selection design and process modifications.
Over charging and undercharging shall be minimized by use of high purity material and also via universal UPS charge algorithms developed to match our battery products.
This in term ensures 650 Cycles at 50% DOD, with design life of 5 years in Float condition @ 25 deg C.
In addition, due to the emerging E-Bike & Scooter requirements in India, SBPL Hi-Power plans to launch new range of Premium E-bike Batteries with special features and warranty shortly.
